Physical Characteristics: We couldn't find any entries in our regular reference books, so this information was taken from the internet. Shiva Shells, also known as Pacific Cat's Eyes and/or "Mermaid's Money", are actually the "door" (operculum) of the Turban snail. They are found in shallow waters around Thailand, Indonesia and Australia. The shells are make of calcium carbonate. The colors of the markings vary depending on the snail's diet. The extra small option all weigh between 8 - 10 grams, the small option weigh 11-15 grams, mediums are 16-18 grams, large weigh 19-21 grams, and the extra large option weigh 22-27 grams. We believe these have been polished, but we could be mistaken!
Metaphysical Properties: The name Shiva Shell is taken from Hindu mythology because of the resemblance to the third eye of the god Shiva. It symbolizes insight and wisdom, and is also said to offer protection against an "evil eye" curse. Travelers and fishermen will often carry these for protection and good luck. Some use them to aid with intuition, spiritual growth, balance, as well as concentration. The spiral pattern is associated with the Golden Ratio and/or the circle of life. Please note that using sunlight, salt, or water is NOT recommended as cleansing methods because these methods can cause discoloration or harm the physical integrity of the shell. Instead they should be cleansed with Selenite or Mother Earth. We assume Citrine would also be a good stone to use for cleansing.
Please Note: The pictures, price, and average weight change according to the option chosen, but the measurements will not. However, there is a ruler included in each picture to give you an idea of size. The option picture will show the front and back of example pieces for that size option. NOTE THAT THE PICTURES CALL THE "JUMBO" SIZE OPTION "EXTRA LARGE" (oops!).
