Physical Characteristics: A variety of Andradite Garnet, color a dull or lustrous black. Melanite has a hardness of 6.5 - 7. It is sometimes called "Titanium Andradite". It can be found in Italy, the Ural Mountains in Russia, Ukraine, and in California ad Arizona in the U.S.
