Physical Characteristics: Tanzanite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral, a member of the Zoisite family, and is sometimes called Zoisite. Hardness is 6.5 to 7. There is only one commercial mine in Tanzania. These pieces are left in their original rough or raw form, but they are not gemstone quality because they lack clarity. CAUTION: MAY CONTAIN ALUMINUM THAT COULD LEACH INTO WATER. Not recommended for elixirs.
